Plants the goldfish eat are a good idea. Clip on's with lettuce are also a good idea.

I would tend to steer clear of the blocks. They are messy and really don't work all that well.

There are automatic feeders you can buy which are battery run and work fairly well.

Also, if you are going to be gone for 10 days, and have a small enough tank, I would suggest putting your gold fish in the refrigerator. This will lower the temperature of the water he is in slowly and he will go into a state of hybernation. (Just like he would in an outside pond for winter) he will not require food during that time.

Any additional questions feel free to email me or just repost.

You should find a local pet store and look for a Tetra Vacation feeder. They should only cost $3 or $4. They contain a "gel" version of TetraMin flake food. I believe Tetra also offers a version with actual Goldfish formula in it. They are very safe and easy to use. They are small shallow cans with a foil cover (like a yogurt cup). Just peel the top and place on the bottom of the tank. Soup's On! for at least 7 days.
Plants will not keep your goldfish from starving while you are gone, though. Starvation will cause your fish alot of stress, which will only lead to Ich or worse....death.

I have an automatic fish feeder, it was a simple fairly cheap one, you can adjust how much food it gives out, it feeds every 12 hours and it runs on AA batteries. Its was a good investment for me because I leave my fish are alone on weekends and buying those weekend feeders would add up.

NO!!!!! Please do not do that.
Now, I could be wrong, but I believe the only reason fish eat plants (like the ones in the vase/lilly concoction) is because they are EXTREMELY hungry.
They have those white shell things you can drop in and they are supposed to feed your fish for days. I know they have one for weekends, and I'm pretty sure they have some for longer periods of time. But I would suggest doing those and having someone stop by your house maybe twice or so while you are gone and having them feed the fish as well.

they actually have a ten day feeder from either penn plax or tetra.... the ten day one looks like an octopus and really works and lasts! they will not just survive on the plants.

Yes, they would do fine. Those feeder blocks are not really agood choice, they tend to disolve fairly quickly and wouldn't feed the fish for long at all. Adding some plants for the fish to eat while you are gone is a good idea. Anacharis is a good choice because it's soft and easy for them to eat.

they should but feed them before you leave and make sure they ALL eat when you leave or you could try one of those weekend fish feeders but they'll probably eat it when they're not hungry so ask your local petshop I guess

There are ''weekend'' feeder blocks, that you can purchase at your local pet store, to provide food while you are away from home. I believe they have one that lasts a week.
