I hear it pronounced agwyre a lot, but that sounds like its been anglocized and doesn't seem consistant with Spanish language.

As usual, it depends.

Former Detroit Piston Mark Aguirre is 'uh-GWAI-er'.
Klaus Kinski film Aguirre, the Wrath of God is 'ah-GI-rre'.

Same deal with Americans who pronounce their name 'JIM-in-iz'

I am from Venezuela and spanish is my first language. in english Aguirre would be pronunced "Ah-gwee-rray". you'd usually roll the Rs. Hope this helped :)

A-goo-air-a. that's just a guess, i'm not hispanic, but i have lots of friends that are, so i can pretty much pronounce almost any spanish last name that's given to me.
