I know this may sound really silly, but we have a place down in TN and if we had a laptop, (no phone available) how is it connected to a reception source? Is it used like a cell phone? just give me the simplest explanation you can give, i appreciate it..............S.t from ohio

You don't have to have a net connection to use a laptop...

Though it is possible, if you have cell phone connection...

Or even satellite communications.

Obviously, those would cost more.

Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, and probably others, offer high speed Internet service anywhere in the US where you could get cell phone signal. The monthly fee is lie $100, and the network card you need is another $100.

You could also use a cellphone as a modem(just like you would with a regular telephone line), but the connection can be extremely slow.

If you want the laptop on the internet, and if there is no local ISP available, then you can get a satellite internet, such as Hughes
