No, minnows will not work since, as others have pointed out, they do indeed have backbones. Have you considered the hermit crab? They do not have backbones but are cute, easy to interact with, and readily available.

i became born at 32 week, 27 yrs in the past... All fish have a back bone, to speak of. Sharks don't have bones, but infact have a back bone.
If you are looking for something thad doesn't, try a jelly fish, (Not a fish but an invert) annemone, Starfish, crab, squid, octapi. These will all work.

All fish have bones, so, NO, you may not use minnows.
Grasshoppers, worms, crickets, roaches, spiders, crabs, ants, butterflies, and moths are all animals found around a house without bones.
