Sure. But, especially if you broke the deal, you have to keep that line established to stop it from being a second run down that mountain you've already been down.

Of course you can continue to be friends with your ex-boyfriend. Don't listen to anybody who says you can't (unless you dumped him because he was cheating on you or something. If he soiled himself, then he doesn't deserve to even be looked at by you, it'd be too good for him).
My boyfriend and I just brokeup not too long ago (lat week actually), and he begged me to still be his friend. Now, he and I are the best of friends (i still hate the idea that he might get another girlfriend, but he sucked at being a boyfriend anyway). My ex-boyfriend and I became better friends in the "friend" stage than we did in the "boyfriend-girlfriend" stage. Because when you're just "friends",you're not constantly trying to "make this work". The stress of trying to get along with each other and "keeping the sparkle" was beginning to eat at the relationship, and was tearing us apart.
Be glad that now you have a new friend. He might just be the closest friend you've ever had. (my ex-boyfriend is the closest friend I've ever had). And if you can get over the realtionship, that'll make you stronger =)
and who knows, maybe you'll get back together one day

Yes, you can, but 1) it depends on both of your maturity levels and 2) it may take some time.
I am wonderful friends with a guy that I dated for almost 4 years. We talk on the phone and email each other regularly, sometimes daily. He was 19 and I was 21 when we met and we dated until he was 22 and i was 24. Although it took some time for the hurts of our broken relationship to mend, we are now 27 and 29 and are very close. While over the years the temptation for more has arisen, we both respect that our friendship is too great to mess up with a little fooling around.
I am a person who believes that if I cared enough about someone to date them, then I can certainly care enough about them to be their friend. I wish you luck!!

If he is physically unavailable. As a chat Buddy, yes there should be no problem, however, if the chats focus on inappropriate comments, well, I think we both know the answer to that one!

Sometimes they can be your BEST friends. Don't forget you both know each other pretty well and sharing and talking come easier.
