In the states were medical use of marijuana is legal, the US is prosecuting the medical users because it is against federal law. They need to tax it and stop making drug runners rich.

Marijuana is, I think what some people would call in legal limbo. I believe our government has made it's people believe that everything they say is a drug is illegal - but the truth is the government has little control of what drugs come and go in our country. If you doubt that statement, look at just how many offenders in jail are there on drug charges. Personally, I think they ought to admit fault on the government's part and legalize drugs for personal use. If someone takes an overdose and dies - well so be it - one less idiot to deal with. As for the FDA and the AMA - they lose control of people and their lives and health - and they shouldn't have the amount of control they seem to think they have. America has the most educated people in the civilized world yet we can't go to a drug store to get what makes us feel better. We are forced to go to a doctor who thinks they know our bodies better than we do. What happens if you don't have health insurance or a bag of money? Will most doctors see you then? NO - so why do they have the control they have???? LEGALIZE DRUGS FOR PERSONAL USE!!!

This is a developing area of the law. At present, a few states are starting to allow medicinal marijuana use.
However, the Federal Gov't isn't recognizing that, and will probably arrest the people that use with prescriptions anyway.
Of course, the problem with that is that it's obvious to anyone unconfused by having a Law Degree that the Constitution doesn't give the federal government the authority to prohibit marijuana use to anyone.

They have THC pills. There is no need for "medical marijuana" It's just stoners trying to get around the law. And there are federal laws against it, so it's not really legal. The law just drags their feet on enforcing it because there would be such a big stink if they persecuted it to the fullest extent.

nice question! Back in the day when the United States had immigration problems with Mexico, the U.S. government made marijuana illegal hoping it would keep the half baked wet backs from smoking their "mota" whithin U.S boarders, making the population of the illegals smaller:)

because the people are using it for medical reasons obviously need it for pain and stuff. the trained doctor would know whether they are just abusing it or actually need it for pain management.

Vicodin, Percocet, Valium and many other drugs are illegal to have too unless they are prescribed to you. It is to prevent drug abuse and misuse.
