What were some reasons citizens wanted annexation for Texas into the Uninted States?

There was a huge population of Americans who had settled there. They did not trust Santa Anna to live up to his part of the surrender agreement. Most people thought they would be better off joining the United States. This would afford protection from Mexico trying to reclaim Texas.
