Good question! Had he played against the original Bad Boys of Detroit and the 90's New York Knicks, he'll have a hard time getting even 30. Present rules allow slashers like Kobe to get to the line on silly touch fouls so he's feasting on free throws, mostly on three-point plays, every night. If he'd been guarded by Dumars, Vinnie Johnson, Rodman and New York tough guys like Starks and X-man McDaniel, Kobe would lose his concentration and whine and complain all night to the refs. MJ had a hard time with these guys, but instead of whining he got himself bigger and stronger and eventually overcame these guys. By the way, it is significant to note that MJ dropped 30-40 points on these guys despite their rough play.

The greatness of Kobe Bryant cannot ever be stopped, not even by the old Knicks and Pistons of the late 80's and early 90's. Though as rough as you make them seem, they were not flagrant fouling people every possesion, yes they did play dirty, but greatness always tops any force of pain, and Kobe Bryant has that so it is not an issue.
They question you should be asking yourself is could 90's Jordan play in the NBA now and do what Kobe is doing against defense stacked on him with premier defenders.
Jordan never had any premier defenses, he had Elou, John Starks, and Reggie Miller guarding him. please
Kobe Bryant has Lebron, Tmac, Vincer Carter, Dwayne Wade, Carmello Anthony, Bruce Bowen, Ruben Patterson, Shane Battier, and Raja Bell
So if anything Kobe Bryant has it worse then Jordan and
thus it makes him not close to Jordan, but Jordan not even close to him in the level of greatness.

He could score 50, of course, but he would be hurting afterwards. Rick Mahorn would pound him into eternity and then Laimber would pile on as well. Jordan scored 50 on the Pistons back then, so yes, Kobe could do so as well.
However, the point of your post is accurate: Kobe is not as good as Jordan, and he never will be as far as we can tell. Everyone who slobbers on Kobe and calls him better than Jordan is just delusional, plain and simple :)

No chance - don't get me wrong Kobe is a great player. I can't stand the guy but he is a great player.
Now he would have got 50 a couple times playing in that time frame but not against the teams listed.
Jordan would have put up Wilt like number if he was in the league right now.

you make an excellent point. and w/o the handchecking rule now, too... i'm suprised nobody's brought this up in those kind of debates yet.
so to answer your question, NO. he might have gotten hot every now and then, but couldn't have done NEAR what Jordan did. Jordan, today, would score 60 regularly

Of course. The NBA wasn't full of restrictive rules then like it is now.
