It's an a1630n HP Pavillion from around Christmas time. It currently has an integrated graphics card. Will it be able to hold a newer graphics card?

Depends on the graphics card. Some newer cards require an extra power connection. How many Watts is your power supply rated for? If its 350+ watts, you should be fine.

some graphic cards require power from the power supply, others simply get power from the motherboard PCI-E connection
my dell dimension doesnt have the power conenction to the graphic card, and its a mere 305W unit, ive installed the pmost powerful card i can, nvidia 7600GT, which uses power from the motherboard's PCI-e

Hi. You should not have any power problems by just adding a GPU.
