It's at night and I hear it running around.

How do I get it out humanely? Can I do it tonight or wait until morning?

Only way I know is get a live trap but check it a lot and set it loose a long way away from your house. My friend battled them for a long time and he ended up getting rid of them by accident in a not so humane way. They drowned in his stock watering tank by falling in when water was low trying to get a drink. Sad thing but they are gone now. He did catch a couple in the live trap and set them free though.

I'd suggest that you wait until morning. Open a section of the soffit, and first try luring the squirrel out with food on the ground. If this doesn't work, then try banging on the soffit, and scaring the squirrel out. After he is out, replace the piece, and then locate the entrance that the squirrel used. Plug that up as well.

Have you seen the critter? I don't think they like clorox or ammonia. But he will be back, right? You need to seal up the entry point he is using!
