just got bittorrent on the reccomendation of a friend and dont see why its so great. can somebody give me some pointers on how to get free stuff? (movies in particular)

Get uTorrent, and use the search box in the upper right corner...

Youll have to get sucked into the big underground piracy network. But I cant tell you about that here. And I certainly couldn't tell you to check out www.piratebay.org!

Yah... its great... you can even download softwares, games, etc. in full version and its totally free.... but first you need to download a torrent file(www.scrapetorrent.com)... example... Diablo2.torrent... and then extract it to your bittorrent....
Its great promise!
