Not 2 b a smart **** but first thing is to organize your intent and target. Is this for the sake of art? Do you want an illustration of commerce? Are you interested in design or background. Is it boats or ships? (an incorrect but functional definition is does it require crew and/or include living quarters, Ship, or recreation and basic transport in protected waters, Boat. )

There are many sources available from inland commerce to treasure fleets. Wikipedia is definitely a good source providing you have the target.

You've selected an exciting topic but if you try to search it all you'd better quit your day job.

If your first attempt at Wikipedia isn't successful, try again using fewest words as if you were describing it to a non-English speaker. If that doesn't work use your original thought in Google. It will acknowledge spelling errors, my personal favorite. and give several options.

Good Luck!
