Actualy it isn't , if you think that the world is miserable it shows
that you don't have an exact goal in your life , if you have a goal and you try to achieve it throughout your life then the world wouldn't be the same as you thout about that and it would be
more interesting.
so you should find your goal.

What are you comparing it to?

If you're asking whether there's a less miserable place to live, then the answer is no...unless you count that vacation spot on the 3rd moon of the 7th planet orbiting the star Betelguese.

Or are you asking, is life generally miserable? Is so, then the answer is yes. While there are many, many happy events in the average life, there's also struggle, pain, sadness, etc. With any luck, the happiness will outweigh the pain, but even if it does, it's not so much more that it's obvious that we choose life again after we die (or if we were back to when we weren't born yet).

In other words, it's not that big a benefit to have lived as many people might think, compared to a state in which you never existed. After you add it up, it's around break-even. But life sucks for more people than it's really good for. Note here that life isn't really good for anyone all the time (money, happiness, traveling if that one of your life-goals, eating well, etc.); there still must be some sickness, injury, close deaths, etc. around to bring you down.

And considering that there's 7 billion people or so who live in this world, I'd say that there's a lot more sadness in the world than happiness....that's simply life's default setting. Or at least something very neutral.

Some people think that causing one to exist can't be a benefit to that person for technical reasons. Namely, in order to say state 1 is better than state 2 for person A, the first requirement is that there needs to exist a person A in both those states in order to compare the net gain in happiness or pain. But when you're talking about your own birth, there was no "pre-you" state of affair to compare you now to.

But I (and at least some philosopher I recently read about but forget where and how exactly his argument goes) am saying something stronger. Which is that, overall, the average life in the US, Europe is a bit more than not-happy, not incredibly more. But collectively, there's a lot more misery and pain and suffering than happiness and pleasure.

So the answer to your question, either way you read it, is yes.

The world is what you make it. Ever notice people who have very little sometimes are happier that people who seem to have it all? They understand things will never be perfect, all you can do is make the best with what you have. Make yourself happy first and the rest will fall into play. So I guess my answer is No the world is not a miserable place to live, especially if you live in America. For all the bad mouthing this is still the one place you can say whatever you want, no matter how stupid (See Rosie O'Donnell) it may be.

nah .. I think the world is wonderful .. human beings can make it seem miserable!
I moved a few years ago, out of a city .. more in the country. I see the stars at night now.. breathe in that fresh air.. get to see the leaves come on the trees and now n then a fox passes by within feet of my back door - very cute! I love the ocean, the smell of salt air and the sound of children laughing. I suppose if i lived in another part of the world my view would not be so positive.. Glad I live where I do!
I hope you find your spot on this big planet .. MOST of it is absolutely amazing!!!
Hugs!

My dear, judging by your avatar, it is little wonder that you would assimilate that viewpoint.

I have to be honest- I am naturally pessmistic. I think that there is a lot of evil in the world. There are also evil people, although no one is totally good or totally evil, but rather, there are many shades of grey.

Life is good, but life is hard as hell. That is an immutable law of the universe. Even though we have to endure a lot of agony in this life, it is WORTH LIVING. Why not embrace the day (and the night)? Life is tragically short. We might as well enjoy the ride.

I hope that things get better for you! I am being sincere. I will honestly pray for you. God loves you, and as a fellow human being, I love you too. I can't promise you tomorrow. I can't promise you happiness. Realistically, it is better to aim for a goal such as "contentment" rather than happiness.

I encourage you to think positive. Add positive action to the equation, and I assure you, your life will get better!

Take care.

The glass is half full.

I agree with this viewpoint only if "I " myself feel miserable and I myself see no beauty and light and happiness around me. So if my perspective is only concentrated on all the miserable things, yes then I can think like you.
But this changes as soon as I put my eyes on all the beautiful things which also surround us. Or if I feel "love" or compassion to somebody, then suddenly this world becomes like paradise.

It has it's ups and downs.... maybe this is just a down time. No body said life would be simple or wonderful-- it for sure isn't unless you make it the best you can. You can't change the world, but you can change the way you look at it and your actions towards it. Smile, try to make today beautiful in your eyes. There's so much to live for and love--- I don't know another world that's better.

The perception you are describing is solely dependent on your focus. That is if you have learned to focus on the miserable you will see a miserable world.

If you have chosen instead to focus on the abundance of love, respect and beauty that surrounds us then you will start to see a much different world than the one that you are describing.

It's a choice that you have been making. No more, no less.

Has this choice been making you happy?

If not then may be you should be choosing something different.

I agree and disagree. I think it is impossible to get anywhere in life unless you make a lot of money, I hate money it rules us. You can’t do anything with out it and no company wants to pay people what they’re worth. You work and work and work and they don’t appreciate you. And unfortunately this world revolves on money. But on the other side there is your family, your friends, and your loved ones. This world will crap all over you but you just have to make it through the bad times to get to the good so once those bad time are over hopefully you will reap the benefits of dealing w/ those bad time and only have good times to come.
