Some people use ice cubes. Put a few in your disposal, and turn it on. Be sure to cover it up before you turn it on though.

You need to put about 20 to 25 ice cubes in the garbage disposal and about 1 cup of white vinegar.Turn it on until it is all chooped up.It will clean and deodorize it and the ice cubes will also sharpen the blades.I do it about once a week. After you are done chopping it all up run hot water for about 3 minutes.

Most of the answers are good but they are missing two things. Fill up your disposer with ice cubes add 1/4 cup of baking soda, turn on the disposer with no water running, add 1 cup of vinegar, it should start foaming, after about 1 min. turn on the hot water until every thing is gone. Grind some lemons after wards to give it pleasant smell. Good Luck

We run ice cubes through it to clean it and then let it eat up about 1/2 an orange, nice aroma.
