I stupidly got a Tetra and put it in the tank with my 4 Tiger Barbs. They are terrifying the poor Tetra and I don't know what to do. The pet store is closed till Monday and all I have is an extra goldfish bowl with no water pump or filter to put the Tetra in so they don't kill it. What to do? I know now it was stupid to get it so please don't rag me. Good advice PLEASE!

Use most any type of large container that is clean. Large mixing bowls hold several gallons, even a small plastic trash can or storage box as long as it's clean will work. Just fill the container from the tank and place the tetra in that. Scoop a little water up and allow it to spill back in the container every few hours to add a little oxygen and all should be well until Monday morning. Should you have to wait longer, just do a water change like you would with a small fish bowl.

I had a similar problem, but with a guppy. I took her of the tank, put her a 1 quart jar, set up verious thing with cleaned water and moved her every 8 hours. It worked fine.

Tetras tend to be more delicate than guppies so don't expect miracles.

Its generally a bad idea to introduce a solitary fish to a tank that had tiger barbs. Live and learn.

Also tetras should be in scools of 5 or so, they seem to live longer and have better colors.

Catch the tetra in a large aquarium net and "float" it on the surface of the tank until the pet shops open on Monday to return him. With him being in the aquarium net, he will still have filtered water and his air supply and will also be protected from the Tiger Barb Gestapo.

If you have to move her to a different container make sure that the water is changed regularly and the ph is monitored. if it is only for a day or two then their shouldnt be many problems. do remember though that tetras are very fragile fish and die quite easily so please don't get upset if it does end up dieing. if you do ever put any more fish in with your barbs make sure that they outnumber the barbs. generally speaking if the other fish are more in number than the barbs, they won't get attacked.
