I have windows xp, I went to windows task manager and saw that there were a lot of things running in the background that I did'nt know were running, is there a way to clean them up or shut of some of the ones I don't need?

run.....
msconfig
enter
start-up tab
uncheck the ones you don't want
look at the 'path' to see what the program is because some you can't tell
restart your computer and check 'do not show this message when windows starts up'

this will also increase the speed in which windows takes to log onto your account

Did you go into the processes tab? A lot of the things there you won't recognize, but they are important....leave them running.

Get a startup manager from here(free) and then choose the programs you want to start at startup...

Hope this helps:)
