The simple answer is to use whatever recovery/restore method your computer manufacturer provided.

A more indepth answer is that whatever is going on is probably correctable with a complete restore.

How old is the computer? Do you have antivirus and a firewall?

If you have enough memory and your hard drive isn't full your problem is elsewhere.

If you are comfortable enough with your PC to do some investigating try the following. Otherwise you could take it to a local computer shop or just do the recovery angle.

First thing is to check for rootkits and make sure you don't have one. http://www.pcsupportadvisor.com/rootkits.htm has some good software. IF there is a rootkit, just go ahead and recover and make sure you format the hard drive when running the recovery. IF there are no rootkits try the next step.

Second thing is to check for spyware with SpyBot S&D and/or Lavasoft's Ad-aware. Download these programs and see what they find after they have updated. Most of what they find is safe to delete.

If that doesn't help recovery may be your only option if you don't want to go to a local computer shop and find the problem that way.

Yes you can reset it to go back from the day it was bought, but all your data will be lost. You are going to either need a windows operating system cd of your computer or the cd that came with your computer.

But if it's only freezeing while on the net and your not having any other problems with the computer, my best guess is your infected with spyware or a virus's. And that you can resolve this issue by using your virus protection program, as well as what spyware protection programs you use.

Ok, to answer your question YES there is a way to do that.
NO you don't want to do that unless it is your LAST option.

If your computer is freezing up when your on the Internet then you need to check for 2 things.

1.) Do you have an Anti virus software and is it up to date?
If no GET ONE. and make sure it is up to date with it's files

2.) You need to do a disk cleanup.....
Do this by Double clicking on the My Computer icon > Then Right click on the C: Local disk > Go to Properties > About half way down on the right hand side you will see a button that says DISK Clean UP....
Click on that button > Then make sure that the following boxes are checked.......
Recycle Bin
Downloaded Program files
Setup Log Files
Temp Offline Files
Offline Files
Internet Files

Then Click OK and let it RUN .....

After this is done then Re-boot your machine.....
After you do the Disk clean up and Run the Anti Virus update and FULL Scan
your machine should run much better and faster.

You could do system restore but i agree with tim.Full reinstall is best choice,if you spend alot of time on the connected to the net wipe your pc every 3 months because spyware, adware, trojans and viruses will find there way in sooner or later no matter what you use nothing finds every bug.So wiping every 3 months and backing everything precious and doing a format and reinstall will give you a healthy pc but slowly it will get slower till your very unhappy.I have worked on many peoples pcs that dont wipe there pcs more than once a year and there pcs are slow as pcs they made 5 years ago.

I don't know, what kind of computer you have. However, I have restored, a number of Hewlett Packard computers, without disks or formatting. My recollection, is that you press F10, early in the boot process, in order to enter an restore and recovery menu; you then follow the directions. You can probably find, specific help, on your computer vendors website.

If you're using XP you can use the restore wizard. The path is All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
It won't erase your files but should restore it to a point you may be happy with.
Another method could be to use the restore discs your computer may have come with when it was purchased.

Do this online scan from Microsoft it fixes a LOT of stuff. Try it: http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm Be patient, it takes a LONG time to complete. Just leave it alone while it runs. And close all progs. before running it. Once it's running you can even close the main IE window. It runs in a separate smaller window.

system restore or system recovery.System restore only resets the settings to a earlier date.System recovery completely and totally restores your computer to the way it was when you took it out of the box...good luck
