b/c they're American movies. Would Americans want to see a comedy about how stupid Americans really are compared to the rest of the world? Where every other gag is an American being constantly proven wrong about all the sh*t they spew as they are dragged all over the world in a whirlwind adventure about self righteous college folk who think they know something and decide to show the world how great they are? NO!
How about an action drama about a small group of Iraqi civilians who fight off the American militants raping and pillaging their people with a quick action packed opener that depicts a few close family units in the middle of a get-together when all of a sudden planes are heard over head and the whole house and everything in it gets bombed, and children die in the rubble and in a dramatic flash bang sequence the hero's youngest son is killed by rubble and the shifting debris of their once happy home just when they thought it was all over? That same guy leads the revolution against the American invaders with small arms and covert infiltration keeping the Americans at bay for months until they capture him and ship him off to some unknown holding facility where they attempt to beat him until he drops a few names of fellow 'insurgents' and he dies after a few months not once revealing anything to the bloodthirsty men and women that destroyed his family. Would Americans want to see that? NO!

How about a futuristic sci-fi/political thriller, that depicts a world rebuilding itself after the 'American terror regime' made one last desperate effort at overthrowing the highest authorities in the world and blew up it's bombs in all sorts of major cities, inciting the 3rd and final world war in the confusion of it all? A world that has virtually lost all of it's technological advancements, but somehow a strange machine is still keeping the tyranny of the American terrorists alive and well in ways that the people can't possibly understand. The crushed American nation now widely regarded as the last and most powerful geo-political terror squad reaches out from beyond it's veritable grave to smack the world one last time and this time, with the limited military and technological resources at their disposal, it may succeed without ever being around to fully enjoy it... Would Americans pay or want to see that? NO!

In show biz, you shamelessly pander to the desires of your audience, that being said, American movie industries have a few lines they won't cross, making America anything but an awesome but devious force, the hero, or the indifferent participant is one of those lines.

How is America only concerned with its own destruction?

Every nation is guided by self-interest. It's the "selfish gene" in "meme" form.

I'm really curious why you think that America is so focused on its own destruction as opposed to other countries? Plus for those who live here we have a government recognizing individual liberties and religious freedom. You can't get that in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, or most places in the third world.

P.S. America is a global superpower. Our films reflect our ego and sense of infallibility. And they cater to an American audience and patriotism is the easiest way to avoid offensiveness. These are all plausible reasons.

Because the really big movies are made in America, and therefore cater to their primary audience (Americans). Prime example; Independence Day. This movie is often criticized for being too pro-American, but consider this; this movie was directed by an American, filmed in America, starred American actors, geared towards Americans, released on America's birthday, and the movie was SET on America's "birthday" (July 4). A better question would be why citizens of other nations feel they should be the heroes in American movies (007 not included).

Because Hollywood makes the movies that everyone wants to see ( just look at the box office numbers). If you don't like it, make your own movie and you can make the hero anyone you want.

But until your movie can beat the American movies on the box office you're going to have to deal with it, or don't go see them. No one is forcing you to buy the ticket.

We are just like Rome.

We ruled the world but then let just anyone from any place become a "Roman" and all the sub-standard citizens polluted the gene pool and then democracy turned to empire and things got corrupt and lazy and the whole thing falls apart.

America only saves the world in American films.

In British films, Britain saves the world. In Japanes films, Japan saves the world. It's called playing to your audience.

Considering that the US is more likely to have the means at their disposal it is more then likely.
