I am taking my laptop overseas, and the place I am staying has wi-fi wireless. I was told by someone I don't need to open up the laptop, just buy a device which plugs into laptop. Can some of you super-geeks answer? Name of the device and model would be appreciated.

Just be careful what you buy, overseas and the US are not the exact same WiFi. Most US adapters will work in some oversees locations and some even allow you to change to the country of choice. Just be sure you get one that allows country choice!

I favour Netgear or Belkin wireless adaptors. The simplest are USB, just one caution with USB, always install the drivers before you plug in the device. If you do not it can cause difficulty with the install. Both these manufacturers have very good wireless setup utility programmes. All you will need to do is enter the security key (if any) given to you by the site operators.

This is an Airlink AWLC3026 Wireless-G 54Mbps PC-Card/PCMCIA Notebook Adapter
Check to see if your laptop has one built in before you spend the money though (most built in the last 3 years have one)
