GM cars tend to do that. i had a 2001 Alero that did that to me. if she has onstar they can send a code to it to reset it. if not, then she needs to take it into the dealer so the computer can be reset. good luck

it should only do this on cold mornings? My brother has a 2004 saturn ion and the same thing happened to him. The silicone they use in the ingnition switchj doesnt like the cold. Until he had the $200 to get the ingnition replaced he used to keep a lighter in his car and heat up the metal part of the key slip it in the ignition and wait about 10 seconds and then it would start up every time. The guy at teh dealership said he is replacing about 2 a day but saturn wont recall them because they havent killed anyone yet. Call saturn and they will send you some service certificates they gave my brother 5 $20 certificates that he can use for oil changes or whatever else.

Several times a day, someone asks a very similar question to your's.
It's very helpfull to include a little more information in your question to help us, help you, in your times of trouble.
Some of the simple things to include in your question is:
1) Year of car.
2) Make of the car.
3) Model of your car.
Those three things can help us narrow down known issues with particular vehicles that have certain problems that occur on a regular basis. (ie. recalls and such)
Next, If you could give a more detailed explanation of what is happening when you turn the key to start your car.
1) Nothing happens?
2) You hear a "click", but nothing else?
3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn?
4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up?
5) The engine turns over, but very slowly.
6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise?
Lastly:
What happened last time you drove it?
1) Drove home fine last night, just won't start today?
2) Was driving fine, and it just died on you?
3) You haven't driven it in a while. It's been parked in storage?
I like to say: "The better the question, the better the answer"

Will the key not turn or the engine will not turn over. If the key won't turn, pull the wheel as hard as you can to the left and then try to turn the key. The steering wheel is probably just locked. If not that then see if you can jump start the car.

Check the pass-lock module it may need to be replaced. Is it the original key or one that was made. Some keys have a chip or a resistor in them and it has to be correct before the car will be allowed to turn over.

While I don't know if Saturn does, many cars have "coded keys", with little metal prongs sticking out one side of the key or both sides. It is possible the key itself is the problem, or the ignition switch itself...
Other possible problems, IF they tumbler turns, would be a bad battery, starter relay/solenoid, or neutral safety switch misaligned.
