Don't listen to some of them asking you to stay in Raffles Hotel. Although they're really right about the service and excellent location but the room rates are very expensive.

I would like to recommend you to stay in Furama City Centre. It is also stragetically located in the heart of the city, called Chinatown. And it is exceptionally near to Clarke Quay. Just a 8-mins walk will get you there. If you prefer to take a MRT, it is also less than 2 mins only for the trip, so I would greatly suggest you stroll along and take a good look of our city and its environment.

Furama City Centre Singapore
60 Eu Tong Sen Street, Singapore 059804,

You can either book your rooms in advance using their official website booking system or you may try http://www.asiarooms.com for the reservation instead. You can compare the prices and package being offered online.

I'm very certain you'll like this hotel and the services rendered are also good and most importantly is because Furama is a tall building, you can get to view the great night scenes and capture the captivated views on your handicam or digicam from your hotel room. Enjoy!!!!

Lastly, pls also visit these few fantastic websites:
1) http://www.streetdirectory.com (For road guides and maps)
2) http://www.smrt.com.sg & http://www.sbstransit.com.sg (For transportation guides)
3) http://www.visitsingapore.com (Singapore Tourism Board Official's website) - you can find a lot of unique things and interesting places for you to explore and visit.

I spent 3 nights in the Carlton Hotel which is near Raffles and it was fabulous. I can thoroughly recommend it. Very near to all the great shops.
Whilst you are there, a real MUST is the night safari where there is special lighting like moonlight and all the nocturnal animals you never see are there and you ride through on a little silent electric train. Brilliant.
I envy you. I wish I could go there again, but take empty cases as there is just so much stuff to buy. The problem is not buying everything you see.
The areas of Little India and Chinatown are well worth a visit too.

Raffles is lovely but very expensive.
Orchard Road is where all the shops and hustle and bustle is! There are plenty of hotels there. Do a web search and find bargains. I hear New Otani is very good as well as Phoenix Hotel
