The quote is "You can live with a man for a year, eat the same food and talk of many things. But you will never really know him until -" This is all I remeber, I think that the end part is something violent, fighting or something like that. It is from a movie, so if you know the whole thing or the movie please answer, this is driving me crazy that I can't figure it out. Thanks

It's from an episode of "Firefly", a short lived but very under-rated science fiction show. It's referencing a fictional warrior poet type guy. - Was something like "live with a man 40 years, share his home, share his meals, and talk on every subject. Then hold this man over the volcano's edge and then you will truly meet the man."

Yes. Indeed, an episode of Firefly. Book is refrencing a fictional warrior poet named Shan-yu. "Live with a man for several years, eat every meal, speak on every subject. Then take the man and hold him above a volcano, then you will truely meet the man." In that episode Malcolm Renyolds is held captive and tortured by a man who believes in Shan-yu's statement. That only upon threat of death or pain of torture do you really ever get to know a person.

Pretty sure that's from "The Wedding Date" with Debra Messing (Will & Grace) and Dermot Mulroney (he's an "escort"). When they're learning to dance.
