My computer reads audio cds and cds with information already on them (such as burned music cds, data cds, etc), but won't read a blank cd. If I insert a blank cd into the cd-rom drive, the computer indicates that is detecting it, but then it never allows me to open the cd (D:\) drive. When I double click on my D:\ drive in My Computer, it says, please insert a disk into drive D:. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Apparently you have a CD-ROM (Read-Only Memory) drive, and not a CD-R (Writer) drive. It'll read CD's that already have information on them, but not recognize, or write to, a blank. If you want to burn CD's you'll have to get a drive that writes to discs.

I have a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A and I get the some problem sometimes. I could never know what the exact reason was. I know for sure that when I use a CD-RW (rewritable), it always go wrong. If you're not using this type of media, I advise you to uninstall your drive and reboot your computer. The drive wil be detected again and after a click or two in the dialog box that appears afterwards, it will be re-installed again with "fresh" drivers (firmware).

Um...its blank!? Windows won't open an empty CD, you have to drag and drop files, or burn it with Nero or something before it will work

First of all does it have a CDRW drive? if not than thats your problem. If it does then I would suspect a bad CDROM.
