I guess there is supposed to be a comet visible tonight passing through Leo? Does anyone know about this? If I live in California shouldn't Leo be to the North?

It's not a comet it's an astroid.

Asteroid 2006 VV2 will pass by Earth at a distance of just 2.1 million miles on March 31. This 1.5 kilometer-sized near earth object will shine at tenth magnitude as it streaks through Leo at the rate of about one degree/hour. It should be readily visible through amateur instruments.

An ephemeris for the asteroid is posted at http://cfa-
