The white smoke is most likely burning antifreeze (coolant). If you for sure know that you have a leak, take it to a mechanic, it could be as simple as a coolant line to gaskets that have become loose. The fact that it is an older car with a coolant problem is surprising if you have kept up on your maitenence, but I don't know. And the fact that the weather was rainy/damp probably has nothing to do with it.Unless there is a problem with the electric system (which may be the whole dead battery thing) coolant does not usually cause a car not to start. If you do not want to take it to a mechanic to get it fixed, just keep adding coolant to it (keep it at a normal level)...that would be the way to do it without spending a whole lot of money.

the problems sounds like you have a blown head gasket. This is causing the antifreeze to leak into the cylinders and cause the white smoke also you need to check your oil, if it is turning white and milky it is getting antifreeze in it. It must be fixed or the engine can lock up due to the oil being messed up.

Sounds like it. Blown head gasket the most likely cause and must be fixed if you wish to keep the car. You may have to get the head milled flat again. The probable cause is overheating so you will have to fix that as well.

Your car is no doubt loosing fluid through the exhaust, and that is because of broken head gasket.Normaly this is an expensive repair,5 to 8 hundred dollars, but,if you go to an auto part store you can pick up a bottle of head gasket repair fluid or powder for under 15 dollars and you can do it that way, just follow the instruction on the container. It does work, believe me i just did that on my daughters neon, and it worked great

Yup...Blown head gasket.
The reason it wouldn't turn over easily was water (coolant) leaked into one of the cylinders and hydro locked one of the pistons.
It's only going to get worse, and there is no easy fix.
Sorry.......
