I'm not totally sure, I know you have to pay something like 200 dirhams on arrival but do you need to apply for a visa before you go?

If you have a British passport, you do not need to fill in a landing card for you arrival and your 60 day tourist visa will be stamped into you passport on arrival. This is a free of charge service.
If you intend to stay more than 60 days you will need to drive into Oman and get an exit stamp then drive back into Dubai for you new 60 day visa. The round trip takes about 3 hours. You can also fly to Muscat or Doha for a 'visa run' the trip to Oman is less hassle & cheaper.

No, you don't have to apply for a visa. I was there a short while ago and I don't remember paying 200 Dhr either!

Yes, but make sure you do not have an Israel entry/exit stamp in your passeport and do not say your religion is Jewish or Atheist on the application form. PS: A lot of people have a second passeport because of 'unwelcome' visa stamps in their passeports.

No need, since you are holding a British passport no need a prior visa for you. You will get entry visa for 30 days at the airport, upon arrival.

Welcome to Dubai.
