Ed says it was 714 and the significance of that badge number was that Jack Webb was a big Babe Ruth fan, and Ruth hit 714 home runs in his baseball career. The number is also said to be from Jack's mother's birthday (July 14th).

His badge number was of course 714. Mine was 8619.
That show was OK, but Adam 12 that they made was far more interesting to watch.
Besides he was never a motorcycle officer, so my career was cooler!
