actually Carter did negotiate the release of the Iranian hostages in 1980-81,, but Bush the father took the credit for their release,,, true to the Bush fashion,, Bush the son wants to blame Clinton for his mistakes,,,,

If we get Jimmy Carter to do it, it may end up in another fiery fiasco in the middle of the desert....

For that matter, it's not even an American problem...I'd say let the Brit's figure it out for themselves. (albeit I do believe the Brit's were outside Iranian territory when they were captured).

Yeah, and it took 444 days and the election of Ronald Reagan to get them released! Carter's attempt to hire someone who claimed they knew how to do it, failed miserably. Notice, he hasn't said anything.
