Counties in the USA are geographical subdivisions of the states in which they are part of. While the various states have differing practices, it is almost universal that counties are not considered self governing municipalities like cities, villages and towns, but they do have some jurisdiction. Cities reside IN counties; and if you happen to live in a city, you pay both city and county taxes. If you don't live in a city, you still pay county taxes.
There are quite a few counties with the name Orange.

The word 'Orange' as a place name often comes from Orange in Holland, as in Prince William of Orange. Orange County New York is named after that prince. Orange County in California, though, is named after the fruit, as previously posted.

That's where the orange fairys live, and they travel all over the world at night sprinkling orange seeds and fairy dust so that the trees will grow and everyone can have orange juice with their breakfast.
