I thought it was excellent. I really enjoyed it and think its the best opening episode of the three new series so far. Certainly bodes well for the rest of the series. I'm looking forward to the next twelve episodes immensely and am awaiting the appearence of actors like John Simm and Derek Jacobi with baited breath (not to mention the return of Captain Jack).
I liked Martha and think that she has a lot of promise, but I agree that its a bit early to tell how she will compare to Rose. I think she may well turn out to be better, because the writing and story telling seems to be improving all the time, and those are the major factors which determine how good the character is. I hope we don't see too much of her family, however, as I found them quite annoying. Mind you she seemed to find them annoying as well, so perhaps that was the point.
I have to say I thought the Judoon were a bit silly. Rhino headed intergalactic police. Why would aliens have heads so closely resembling Earth animals like Rhinos? Hopefully the reason will be explained at some point in the future.
I was intrigued by the plasmavore though. I wonder if there's any connection with the 7th Doctor story "The Curse of Fenric" which featured blood sucking haemovores. Could Martha have some connection with the "Wolves of Fenric" like Ace did? I'm probably getting a bit too far ahead of things with this, but either way it will be fun finding out.

Yeah, it was good. And I like the new assistant, but for the love of God I can't remember her name. You can tell straight away that there's chemistry there. I can't wait till next week. I still like Rose the best though, but we'll see how the new one gets on.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode and cried 'Noooo!!' when i realised it was finished so switched over to watch 'Doctor Who Confidental'. I just hate it when that happens as I was enjoying it!! I sometimes feel cheated by time itself.
If only I could be a time lord.... (sigh).
I'll be watching the repeat tomorrow night on BBC3 at 8pm!

I watched it for the first time tonight. My 3yr old daughter did too! (She loves Jurassic Park and stuff like that - bit weird like her mother!) We both enjoyed it and I thought the special effects etc were really impressive. Will probably watch it next week!

It was a good start & no mention of Rose - cried my eyes out when she left last year.I like Martha already & looks like she will out-do Rose already.

Great I saw the Doctor after the show, he looked at your question, went into the future, and said somebody called figetty fingers or something like that, got the best answer for this question.
But I don't believe him.
