As you well know, the attraction that women have over men from sexual attraction and attention of men is a fact of society. If for some reason men stopped being attracted to women for sex, would they basically become second class citizens?? I suspect this is the case, because on whole, women lag men in the vast majority of roles, in almost every society. I know this may be unsettling, but are women compromised without their power of sexual attraction?

@ Deirdre: I find your loose usage of the term "nazi" offensive as my people suffered under that regime (many were killed in camps!)

@sandibum......you are doing a dis-service to your gender by showing your ignorance by assuming I'm in "a little room"- I'm actually at the corporation (and on the employers dime!)

well, first off, i don't think women lag behind men. Neither do men lag behind women. Instead, there are certain people who are better than certain others at certain tasks. Some men cook better than women. Some women make better bosses than men. And some men make better "stay-at-home-parents" when compared to their female partners. It isn't a gender-based division. The only thing I can think of is physical strength, but even then a skinny boy would not be stronger than a female wrestler.
And may I point out that men wouldn't survive in this world either without the sexual attraction of women. I have yet to hear of women who have slept with men their weren't attracted to. Of course, attraction is more than looks: it has to do with personality, money, intelligence, confidence, similarity etc. etc.
Even men marry for money. Even men can be bowled over by a woman's intelligence & wit or maturity. Money and intelligence too are markers of sexual attractiveness that help a man in choosing his mate. I don't see how money and intelligence would ever make a woman a second-class citizen.
And if you are suggesting that a man's only marker for a woman's sexual attractiveness is physical beauty, well, that would just make men second-class citizens and the women as well, for being suckers and buying into the superficiality of the so-called relationship.

By power of attraction do you mean physically or personality wise? Or both?
Remember is was only about 55 years ago that women were actually starting to veture out into the world. Men had like since the beginning of time. Women needed to stay home and take care of the children while men hunt and provide. Technology hasn't been around very long at all.
Honestly, I would think it would be a blessing if women no longer had the power of attraction. This "power of attraction" is what drives many men to think women are evil. This "power of attraction" is what makes girls starve themselves to look like the beautiful movie stars you see in magazines and movies.
Sometimes when I read some of the answers and questions here...I kind of realize how infantile the human species still are....

I can tell that you are a REAL MAN, with REAL DESIRES, but you only understand womens' value as sexual.
With more sperm banks at hand (pun intended), the scenario you imagine may become reality sooner than you think.
It could have very different results, though.
I believe that women would actually be freed from having to worry about meeting men's approval, seeking their attention, spending vast sums of money on cosmetics and procedures,or vying for men's time.
What! that's what happens in middle age anyway!
Many women just stop playing the game at the age of 45-60.
Maybe hormones to perpetuate the species are causing women to act in a way that is less than in our best interests.
How cool.
One day, maybe the younger women will realize that they, too, can avoid playing games and still be wholly human, happy and free.
Good luck

Why are some of the men who come into "Women's Studies" such haters?
The answer to part of your question is no, unless men have somehow figured out how to carry a baby we will always have at least a certain amount of power even if your theory that without the power of attraction we would be useless, without women MAN kind dies out.
Also you need to point out the area's that we "lag" behind men, in order to have a real debate you have a point and a counter point, we can not counter your point because you have not made one, list where we lag behind men.

Well let's see here. Would women 'become' second-class citizens if men stopped being attracted to them? Hmm, since men have ALWAYS been attracted to women and since women have ALWAYS (until perhaps very recently) been treated as second-class citizens, that assumption would make little or no sense.
If women 'lag behind men' in various roles, I would say that reason is unequivocally because women are STILL treated as second-class citizens to a lesser or greater extent all over the globe and STILL have fewer or reduced opportunities.
In fact, it might possible be that if men were NOT so desperately attracted to women, women would be treated as simply other human beings instead of as sex objects.

I'm female. I also maintain good grades in a difficult degree program at a good university. I do better than a lot of boys in my classes. I do not use my "power of attraction" to get me anywhere. If I answer a question wrong on my tests it doesn't matter what I look like- it's still wrong. Get over yourself. You are no better than any female here. A woman is not a full citizen because you're attracted to her.

The Blessed Mother Teresa did a powerful job of pulling dying men out of the streets and showing them compaction they never experienced in the brothels. Men who succumb to the addictions of the lusts for skin who spent all their lives searching for love in the wrong places. The Blessed Mother Teresa found them covered with maggots dying in the streets; she cleaned them up, and used what little time she had teaching these men about true love so they could experience this before they dyed.
Her power came from focusing on loving each individual who came along her path one at a time. In my opinion she wasn't a beauty who oozed sexual attraction, but to each their own I suppose. Many believe her to be more powerful than most political leaders ... however, she was humble and professed that it is in accomplishing the small things that made her great through the glory of God.
Did your Mother use her sexual influence on you to help you to walk, talk, or get an education? I hope not.

Shouldn't you be working......just kidding!
Perhaps this isn't the best category in the forum to ask this question...However, this may be true to a point. ABC 20/20 did a show on "attractive people" and they had two women, one quite plain, and one sexy and beautiful run out of gas on the side of the road.....the plain looking one had to wait nearly an hour for someone to stop.....while the sexy one actually had three guys at once running to the gas station to get her gasoline. So I wouldn't say they are "nothing" but their infuence would certainly be diminished

Many women's lives would be changed for the worse if they were not able to use (or wield) their sexual power to influence the behavior of men. The effect would be contingent on how much the woman used her sexual attraction to maintain power. This effect already happens when attractive women get older, but by then they've matured emotionally.
