I suspect that your values are different than your friends. By values, I mean, among other things, what factors you consider when you judge your self worth (either consciously or subconsciously) and where you place the most importance. Aside from physical appearance, a person can value many things, such as an ability to get along with others, the number of friends one has, an ability to verbally or artistically communicate well, and discuss a number of issues with other people or in writing. The list could go one for some time. I think at its most basic is the separation of the physical and the mental (as in personality). Personality and looks are related, of course, but it seems you and your friend are separated on these two issues.
I'm not trying to say you are only concerned about your looks. I can't honestly say that because I don't know you. It's just some of the things I've noticed. It's just food for thought.

Because people have drilled into you for your whole life that being overweight means you are ugly. The movies you watch, the magazines you read, and television all brainwash you every day to make you feel like less of a person because you are overweight. Maybe you can even sense your parents dissapointment b/c you are not skinny.
You need to realize that most people in the world don't feel this way about you. While you are worried about your weight, most people dont care what you look like. They care about whether or not you make them feel important, feel loved and feel appreciated.
Before you lose the weight work on making yourself realize that you are a wonderful, beautiful person, because even if you lost all that weight, you would still have a low self esteem. Its more important to "feel" beautiful, than to "look" beautiful by Hollywoods standards anyway
- and even if you never, ever lose that weight, remember, you will always "be" beautiful.

Some people are happy with themselves on the inside and feel good about themselves at whatever wight they are. It depends on each person and what is important to them. I think it's great that you are doing something that is helping you to feel better about yourself and to get healthier as well. Don't base how you feel about yourself on looks alone. The person you are on the inside is much more important in the long run.

It's because she doesn't care of what other people think of her, and that's the best thing. You have to love your self no matter what anyone thinks. I used to care what other people thought about me, and i tried to change so i was like them, and just now (thank Allah) i have reliazed that i don't like what they like and I'm my own person man...and now i'm ALOT MORE confident about me :) Good luck

You care more about how others look at you. Not saying it is good or bad. She is just more comfortable in her skin.
