Frequently, bad breath is caused by not keeping your mouth moist enough. Offering breath mints is a good idea (or gum-that lasts longer), but keeping some water or other beverage on the table may help, too.

In addition, say, here's a mint and you eat one too, saying I sure like a fresh mouth don't you? See what response you get. They may not be aware of a problem, or have dental/health issues. Try to be kind and not hurt their feelings.
