NAFTA doesn't cause unemployment . It redistributes it within the signatory countries. Labor or materials cheaper in one country allow a holding or parent company to locate a manufactoring devision in another country, making the price of the product cheaper. Naturly , moving a section or devision of a manufactoring company out of your town , state or country will creat unemployment, but will creat employment were the devision relocates. Sometimes these devisions shut down and companies shut down if they can't out source -get the product cheaper from another company in another country. In a case such as this the manufactoring devision may shut down , creating unemployment but the company itself is still a viable operation. It's all good business.
The employees or former employees naturly would disagree.

Is this a question or a statement?

NAFTA provides free trade between the U.S., mexico and canada. Any loss of employment would be because mexican labor is much cheaper than US labor so US goods are more expensive.

The countries that are not part of the free trade agreement lose business from Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. This is because with free trade in effect it makes it cheaper for these countries to buy and sell products to eachother, instead of the countries overseas. Thus resulting in less demand for imports from non-north american countries. Less Demand = Less Workers Needed = Unemployment.

It means jobs can more freely move. The US is seeing manufacturing jobs lost to Mexico who can pay lower wages. In return we get cheaper goods.

Everybody complains about this, but the bottom line is we are better off with free trade. Yes some people get hurt, but the country as a whole gains.
