So any advice?

I think it's just the cable that goes from the shifter to the transmission, but don't want to spend the cash for an extra cable if it's something else.

It's a 96 Corsica, 74k miles. First it wouldn't start (lights would come on, but it wouldn't crank), then it started cranking but now won't engage. I think the cable mestup so it wouldn't crank (maybe it was in Drive or something) and then it started cranking, yet the transmission won't engage, and the shifter doesn't have any "resistance" like normal when changing gears. I'm thinking it's the cable, but do you have any advice? :)

Here's a video of the problem,

One cable may be the ignition interlock cable, which may be out of position sometimes.

The larger cable is the shift cable...get someone to watch the other end while you shift back and forth. If the transmission lever isn't moving, the cable has separated. If it is moving however, make sure the lever clamp bolt/attaching nut hasn't loosened up...

When the engine won't crank, it seems like the neutral safety switch is coming into play.

The cable has come loose from the shifter or the transmission. The reason for not starting is the shifter was past the PARK of NEUTRAL position.
