A 2 stroke 125 is not the easiest bike to learn on, as a matter of fact it is one of the hardest to learn on because it has the narrowest power band of any full sized bike. The big question is where do you plan to ride. A CRF150F/230F would be a great learners bike if you are trail riding, but if you will be riding mainly on a motocross track neither of those bikes will cut it. Conversely if you plan to ride trails a 125 2 stroke is a horrible choice. So here is my suggestion. If you plan to do any riding on an MX track the 125 will be fine to learn on, but a used 85 would be a better choice. Ride it for a year and then move to a 125 or 250F motocross bike. If you plan to just do casual trail riding I would go with the Honda CRF230 or the Yamaha TT-R230. The 230's aren't much taller than the 150's and have better power. At 5'5" you could easily touch the ground on either of those bikes. The 125 is going to feel very tall. Go to your local Honda shop and sit on the CR125 and the CRF230 and you'll see what I mean. Good luck and enjoy which ever bike you decide on.

your not a very big kid so i wouldnt jump on a 125 and give it all its got man! you gotta go for a 110 or even an 85. if you ride and 85 or the 110 you will learn alot more about cornering and throwing your clutch around the corners! if your not a beginner and have rode alot before and know alot about riding your bike, then i would go with the honda cr125. i have a couple of them and they are the probly the best 125 out right now that i have rode. its up to you man......you just gotta know your limits! good luck!

The size of the bike is important but what you should be asking is what am i goign to be riding for ,If your racing a yz is the way to go pretty soon the 2 stroke bikes wont be on the market ,If your just trail riding not familar with dirt bikes or shifting a 4 stroke is the way to go. 4 strokes dont need that peak rpm to stay running. Thats my 2 cents ,begginers should start on 4 stroke then graduate to 2 stroke.

I love 2 stroke dirt bikes and prefer them over 4 strokes. But in your case, I would recommend a starter bike to be a 4 stroke. The power delivery is more predictable and controllable. Plus it will require less maintenance.
A Honda CRF150 or Yamaha TTR125. An added feature - they both have electric start.

Go for the cr125, 4 strokes go for ever just fill em up. 2 strokes tend to go through piston rings all the time, plus you need to fart about mixing the oil with the petrol.
