I would like to say that it shouln't. Music is universal.
But how do define belief. My belief was my music. I was and still am a punk. Ok, so my belief was sub-culture.
I put myself into box and did not respect or value other peoples music for years and years.
I look back now and realise I have missed out on so much.
Now, I let the music choose me. Its the rythm, lyrics...whatever.
If you enjoy listening, it makes you smile or feel good, then embrace it. Music will constantly change as we grow.

Hmm...good point actually I've never thought about it.
Well I don't think it does really.
There's a lot I could say. I listen to metal like marilyn manson slipknot korn pantera metallica maiden etc. but i'm athiest. Some lyrics can be considered offensive or even music videos also. Which some have been banned I guess.
Interesting question should be a lot of good answers.

It personally doesn't effect the type of music that I listen to. I consider myself a religious person. However, I can see how a person's religious belief can effect what type of music that they listen to. If a group or song prompts something that goes against someones religious belief could effect if a person listens to the music or not.

It usually depends on the person themselves. I'm christian and I do listen to a bit of rock like Green Day but not heavy metal like Metalica, Marilyn Manson or Slipknot because they are nasty... just looking at them puts me off. I prefer indie types like Kaiser Chiefs, The Strokes, The Kooks etc. Some Christians believe all music is bad but I don't think so just the heavy metal- basically many music that promotes violence, death, which hip hop does to some extent.

No, I think music has an effect on religion and beliefs. When you hear something completely revolutionary and you start thinking about it, your morals and beliefs change if you agree with it. If not, you get pissed off [well, kinda] and you start having opinions on things. It's a vicious circle.

I'm a christian and listen to both christian and secular music. It all depends on the subject matter of the songs. Like The Beatles for instance: I wouldn't consider any of those songs to be horribly wrong to listen to. It must be realized though that Alice Cooper is a christian and still performs live, so not all forms of rock are bad.

Yes... an no. I listen to lots of spiritual music. Lots of classical music that is Christian based, such as Oratorios, choral music, etc.
But at the same time I listen to stuff that has nothing to do with my religion. In fact, it might even be at odds with my religion.

Most Christians believe that it is a Sin to listen to any Music that doesn't Praise the Lord. I do Believe in God, but I don't believe that all non-christian Music is bad.

Yes. Because of my beliefs I only like to listen to music that expresses or doesn't contradict them.
