yes, not only edible oils but also silk cloth, ghee etc. Not because
they are scarce; not because they cause pollution..Just because
there are hundreds and thousands of human beings like us who
are deprived of a single meal a day. In fact, God will not prefer such edible things to be burnt during rituals. However, it is a matter
of faith and no law can dictate how a ritual should be performed.
This applies to such rituals and customs of all religions. Providing
the needy instead of burning them, could be at the most, my wishful thinking.

Ban... really
When edible oils are burned slowly they actually release some "good chemicals" that heal us.. i think incense sticks also have some amount of edible oils in them.
And as another friend mentioned.. the use of edible oil during religious rituals is so miniscule compared to all other wastes.
If u still think this is a waste, then attempt to start at your home , with friends and see the response. NExt start a campaign.. Maybe if what u say is true, we may actually end up finding alternate solutions...

For what purpose?
For one, edible oils are a renewable fuel source, so they do not fall into the same category as non-renewable fossil fuels.
Second, religious use is infinitesimally small compared to the general consumption of energy. It would be like trying to stop crime by making all criminals sit in the corner for 5 minutes, in addition to any other imprisonment.

You are right. But using edible oils etc. in religious rituals, havan etc. is not bad. You can suggest alternative for perfoming religious rituals in best way and with lubricant. All want lubricant. I use lubricant / oil etc. for a lot of purpose.
Should we stop using edible oils during malish / massage of our body?

When the fossil fuel crunch is felt, we have been touting for the use of edible oils and other bio-substitutes. Now, the option is seriously implemented, we have our reservation. I think, the only solution lies in our dismantling of the modern civilisation. Go back to the basics. Let us start walking and riding the bullock carts. Back to Nature--is the slogan.

Why? Religious use is infinitesimally small compared to the general consumption of energy.
I think we must concentrate on major portion of energy wastages and electricity theft.

Only if you're willing to do without ur high-tech toys, music, dishware, garbage bags, soap, furniture and countless other products made from the by-products of oil. It's only fair.

No. Not unless we are willing to ban the use of ethanol, which is made from corn, beets, sugar cane.
