I went natural 2 weeks ago; I have noticed people looking at my head more. I can tell some people are just curious, but some people look at me crazy. I think people need to get over their fear of having "nappy" hair, and accept what God gave them. I don't know if it has anything to do with living in the deep south, but most of the people that seem to have a problem with my hair are actually Black people, they look at me weird like I have some kind of disfigurement. It's not going to change my mind about perms, I just think it is a waste of time to make such a big deal about your hair, let alone someone elses. What do you think about this topic? Thanks and sorry if I seemed to ramble on a bit.

Wow, good question and I have read some really excellent answers. I know my answer can't do this justice but I think natural black hair is beautiful. The only thing I could think of is that we were raised to be ashamed of our hair so when someone is liberated enough to wear their natural hair proudly, some look at this as strange.
Good for you for going natural! Welcome to the club!
Also, I don't know if this will be any use to you but here is a website I found and it has been really helpful to me in providing information about natural hair.

I am also natural. And I can tell you, as sad as it is, I get more looks and comments from black people, than I do from non-black people. Just an hour ago, I was in the store, and a couple of black ladies were squinting and scrunching their faces up looking at my hair. (lol) Yet a group of young white and Asian girls were staring and I could hear them whispering about how "cool" my hair looked. One old white lady even asked to touch, what I call, my 'fro hawk. (lol). Even my hair stylist, who is also natural, tells me she gets the same reactions. I've even had some black people express awe, saying how "brave" I am for going natural, and even more say they are embarrassed for me, wondering why I go out "looking like that." I've even been asked, "Why?" And, "What point are you trying to make?"
I don't live in the south either, I live in a very small suburb of Phoenix, Az. Anyway, when I see people staring or hear comments, I just chalk it up to ignorance, and go on.

I wear my hair in locs, and I have a problem with black women chemically straightening their hair. I see it as a form a self hatred and a way to emulate white standards of beauty. I'm sick to death of seeing beautiful black women wearing weaves and wigs. Some of them are so poorly done that it's obvious that it's not even real hair. How they can leave the house looking that way is beyond me. I applaud you for going natural. Black women need to embrace what's natural to them and their heritage. It looks better than that fake sh*t. The nappy hair ideology syndrome is a side effect of the brain washing that has been so successfully instituted into our psyches since we were dragged here to this continent. As far as the ethnic expression of your natural heritage, more black people would do it if they felt it was accepted by white people, sad to say, and I have no idea why white people are so threatened by black people embracing what comes natural to us. Do you think it has anything to do with why they've tried so hard over the centuries to rob us of our heritage and culture? Cause it beats me!

Personally I find it more strange to see black women with straightened hair. I mean all of us inferior races have straight hair don't we? Isn't that a common criticism "stringy hair". Let the fro grow. It is a more honest way to be. A black person with straightened hair is as ridiculous as.......Eminem and his wannabe losers.

I love natural hair... especially on black woman. My girlfriend is black and she wears her natural hair, and i love every inch of it. When she was 13 she told me she got her first "relaxer" or perm.... but she hated it now she's 18 and wearing her curly hair and it couldnt be more beautiful... as soon as she stopped perming it grew a lot.

maybe people are looking at your hair coz they like it - i know if someone i see on the street has really great hair (colour or style) i may look at it a little longer than i would normally look just coz it looks so great - the same goes for a anyone i saw who had particularly great shoes or handbag - i look because i like it - not because i don't!

I love the natural look and try to emulate it every chance I get. If you have it flaunt it. I have had people ask if I have extensions, a hair piece and a million other questions about my hair I have not changed a thing and don't plan to.

You can wear your hair any way you want as long as you are happy with it. You have to understand that the majority race is over consumed by dieting, being slim, and physical perfection so you can't expect them to understand your hair, just like they don't understand our curvy sillouettes that we work so well or our volumtous lips that they want so bad they inject theirs with collegen, or even our wonderful culture that many of their youth now try to immulate. And unfortunatly many black people fall victim to thier ideas as well so forget them! Do you and have fun with it!
