After all we women have come a long way in obtaining equal rights and no one questions us if we wear a three piece suit, so why then is we are not considered cross dressing, why is it that a man does not have equal rights to wear skirts and dresses.

To start with, men wearing pants is mostly a recent Western thing, probably introduced by the Celts, probably because it was easier riding a horse. And even there we have exceptions, like the Scottish kilts mentioned above, and Greek men who wear ceremonial skirts on special occasions (like the Evezone Guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Athens). And lawyers, judges, priests and scholars wearing robes.

And there's the historical perspective, too. When the Ancient Romans invaded Gaul around 60 BC, they were *scandalized* that those "barbarians" wore trousers instead of "civilized" togas!

Before the French Revolution rich men didn't wear trousers but knee-breeches ("culottes"), while the working class men wore trousers. So they were called "sans-culottes" ("without breeches") and the trousers became a symbol among revolutionary men.

And then there's the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus who told that in Egypt women pee standing up and men squatting down! And in the Old American West among settlers men *and* women peed standing up because of the lack of indoor plumbing, the snakes, and the risk of Indian attacks, and most poor women wore trousers to ride a horse or to work in the mines. Only rich women could afford to ride side-saddle or in a buggy!

So to be more specific, men wearing pants and women skirts is mostly a recent Western phenomenon among the rich.

Men should have the right to wear what they want. There is a movement pushing for men to wear skirts, fashion freedom or men in skirts.
It would make the wardrobe alot more interesting.
Basically society is not ready to accpet men in skirts or dresses yet. there is a shift towards it but it will take time and will not be like a revolution like women wearing pants.

We do, but you have to be Scottish to pull it off. Anyway, guys have been dressing that way for a long time. Haven't you ever seen any of those Hercules movies from the '60s? All the guys are sporting miniskirts. So that means it's been common practice since either the '60s or the Classical period, depending on how you interpret things.

Men can wear skirts and dresses, but, as anyone who has seen a man in a kilt knows, it just doesn't look good. IMHO, there are some rights that men simply shouldn't have.

Who says men can't wear dresses besides the obivious fashoins disaster it would be? I don't see your point how does a woman wearing pants or man wearing a dress give them equal rights?

Well, the Scots have been doing it a long time. But seriously, this is an insidious prejudice- that women would naturally want to "act like" men, but there would have to be something wrong with a man who wanted to "act like" a woman.

Because they don't look as good in them. We can wear what they wear... and make it look better.
