I just closed on a new home on Friday that sits on a 1/2 acre.

I want to get a push mower - and out of all the lawn mowers at Home Depot and Lowes, i'm stuck between trying to decide on a Toro or John Deer.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which one to by, and even a possible model number?

Also - would you suggest a push mower over a riding zero degree lawn mower? I really think those are cool - but not sure if it's too much for a 1/2 acre yard.

Thanks!

The model would depend on how healthy you are. If you're young, then a pushmower, if you're older you might want the riding mower.

How about a self propelled model, that makes it easy to push or really guide. Either one of the manufacturers should be good, they have both been around for an age and are known for their products. Between the 2, I would probably go with the Deere, just because I like the green over the red.

Whichever you buy, do not get it from Home Depot or Lowe's. If you need service or parts, they will send you to a dealer, so skip the middle man. Buy Lawn and Turf Equipment, Reel Mowers items on eBay. Find a huge Toro, John Deere, Jacobsen, Ransomes, Kubota and much more. While it is still very new and has a lot of development in progress, Sunnybrook South is definitely an upscale neighborhood with beautiful homes that are perfect for families as well as smaller villas exclusively for retirees who are interested in small homes with little or no maintenance.I was interested in the JS45 because of the caster front wheels, but then I read a lot of negative reports on here about John Deere push mowers... Buy the one you would buy if they were both the same price.

1/2 acre yard is not all that big, but there will be days, when a riding lawn mower would not be too much, even if you just had a 10 by 12 foot lawn.

Get a riding lawn mower. You will feel mulch better about it and thatch no joke.

I'm in the market for a new lawn mower too, and I'm buying a John Deere. "Nothing runs like a Deere!"
