Making improvements along the line that limbs could be saved and the need for amputation could be decreased over time by this advancement in medicine. What about the prospect of procuring supplies to keep up with sanitary conditions. What about improving of sanitary condition in prison camps such as Andersonville in Georgia and douglas in Chicago

What, exactly was the "Drum and Fife" for?
Keeping in step while marching?
Maybe, but exact marching wasn't big in the heat of battle.
Moral?
Was the sound of the drum meant to remind all of their purpose?
A mistake altogether?
Nothing like a drum beating to let the enemy know where you are!
Ok, these thoughts may be very elementary, and nonapplicable to the idea, seriously, What was their purpose?
