This home was built in 1951. Believe it or not the trim boards are all full size 2" lumber. The facia boards are starting to dry rot. Can I scrape off the dry rot and put on a good primer and top coat and stop the rot from spreading. It is only rotting of the bottom outside edge. Is there a product I can use to retard the rotting. Please no silly answers

I think there is something special that they treat it with. I just had temite people come to the house and scape and treat my deck.

If you can scrape the rot off and then sand to good wood, you should be fine going with a primer and a good coat of paint.

good luck

Red is correct - time to replace the boards. Anything other than that is prolonging the inevitable. If you try using the epoxy compounds, they will become loose in a few years, as they have a different expansion/contraction rate than wood.

yes just make sure the boards are fully clean and if they look rotted all the way threw i would get some new wood, its kinda cheap depending on what style your looking for.

sorry to tell you this but ti is time for R&R (rip it out and replace it) if the wood is as old as you say then i think there would be no sence in trying to save it it is time to move on and fix it now...
