It is worth saving - I know exactly what you mean but remember people who manage to live from cradle to grave on benefits without have done a hard days work in their life are scroungers, they have no respect for themselves and often pass this onto their children and so on it goes. You work and save because you have pride. By the way, I was bought up on a council estate, worked seven days a week for years on end, have bought four houses of my own through sheer hard work. I have a good job and run my own business - I have never claimed a penny from the government - it's all about pride!

You might want to do a little research before repeating what Rush Limbaugh says off the top of his head. (Does he even have a fact checker on staff?)
Rates of homelessness among advanced countries is one of the highest in the United States. This is incredibly short-sighted, because helping these people re-join the work force will help the economy and population as a whole.
Many middle-class Americans are just a few paychecks away from being homeless. I believe that this attitude is very destructive. We all heard about Adam Smith, but the latest contributions to game theory say that he was wrong. Cooperation leads to the best outcome.
Please get out of your selfishness and think about how we can all lead better lives.

Yes it is worth saving because apart from a sense of self-worth and pride, what would you do in a few years time, when the Government stops paying out all those benefits to scroungers, if you haven't saved you will have nothing for those "rainy days" or for when you retire. Saving also prevents you from using your credit card all the time - I owe nothing to anyone and, as a pensioner, it is a wonderful feeling to be able to pay my own way without having to "scrounge" from the Government.

It is ALWAYS worth saving your money where you can, as you never know when you're going to need it (e.g. unexpected bills, etc)........
For instance, if you have around £1000 in a savings account that pays 4.75% interest a year on it, you stand to earn £47.50 on that money, and more and more each year as it compounds up.
Then say something happens at home that'll cost £1000 to fix / replace, and you don't want to fanny around with an insurance claim (or the insurance won't pay up), so you pay for it on a credit card, that charges 16.9%, for instance?
£1000 + 16.9% interest = £1,196 to pay back.... and it'll keep building & building if you only pay off the minimum balance.

I save..but only for my next holiday then I spend it all and start saving for the next one and so on.
As for saving for old age..forget it..
When I retire I will be off to the DWP with my hand stretched out... only one word I will say..and repeat...'GIMME'..
