I was literally a slave to that game for a year and a half, so perhaps yes, it's worth getting.. it's hopelessly addicting and almost like a drug.
Now that I stopped playing, I can't figure out what kept me so hooked to it. =/ All I know is looking back, I wouldn't want to play again. It's pretty much just an endless competition to be top dog, and there was never any time to stop and smell the roses. In other games I spend a lot of time just milling about, exploring or crafting or the like. In WoW I was just pressured to get new gear, gain a level. If that's the kind of stuff you enjoy, go for it, but I prefer a more social and laid-back game.

It depends on what you hope to get out of the game.
If you are looking for a repetitive diversion, a temporary escape from real life worries, and a place to socialize online with people - World of Warcraft may be for you.
The world is very big, with vast areas to explore. Many of the quest storylines are interesting. However, the missions and crafting can become repetitive. Once you get your first powerful character, creating others won't be so bad - you can use the power and money of the first to quickly level the rest. A good guild can also be a great help in this regard.
However, be warned. The others are NOT joking when they say the game is addictive. If your friends or family start to complain about your behavior, listen to them. Check regularly for signs that you may be slacking on chores, classes, work, and other MORE IMPORTANT real life necessities. Don't become another person who damaged their real life by putting too much time and concern into a virtual reality.
Good luck and have fun!

I would say go to your game store and pay like $1-$2 and get the 14 day trial, just so you will have longer to live your life while trying it before you invest $20 for the game and then $15 every month after that for a long time cause you will be so addicted. And try and get 3-4 of your friends to join with you if you decide to get it, it is much more enjoyable being a noob with friends and you will spend days talking about it with them when not playing the game. It is very addicting if you get involved, you may find your self rolling out of bed and starting the game with out even realizing it.
And if you do decide to go for it, do some research as to what you are going to be class wise, and consult other if you have any questions we are a kind community rarely flaming people for there questions.

World of warcraft is worth getting if the amount of time you hope to spend on it will not interfere with your real life. Many people get addicted and sacrifice their real lives to succeed in virtual reality. Getting the game and the addiction level depends on how much control you have over yourself when you start to play it. It all depends on the risk you're willing to take.

Despite the fact that it came out about 2 years ago, it is still dominating the market. New games such as Vanguard pale in comparison. Warcraft isn't the be-all-end-all, but it set the bar pretty damn high...
My suggestion is if you want to play it, find some friends to join you. It makes it a lot easier / funner when you actually know people in the game. If your friends aren’t interested, you can still have a lot of fun, and you may even find a good guild with people willing to help you out.
It is a game after all, try it out and see if you like it. But beware, the "Quest to be top dog" is dominated by guys living in their parents basement with no job and no social life..... Don't turn into one of them.
As for the endless grinding, don't let people pressure you. If you wanna just explore and hang out, go nuts. You're the one playing. Don't people play games to escape pressure and work?

I'd say yes, it's definitely worth getting but you might want to get the trial first just to make sure. I started out on the trial, you can download the trial for free if you have a friend who already plays (they can send you an invite). It is really addicting but as long as you don't ignore the world outside of WoW you'll be fine.
I only feel rushed to level and quest when my friends (who are all level 60 and above) bug me about it. Mainly I take the quests at my own pace and enjoy exploring and raising my profession skill points. If you have the patience for it fishing is fun and relaxing too and you can fish up treasure. You don't have to rush if you don't want to and I've met some really helpful players.

It depends, the game has an incredible amount of lore, so if you like to be transported to a fantasy world, and you love to read every bit of quest text, I'd say you should give a try.
The few problems I can think of would be: the mindnumbing level grind, the gear grind (although it's supposedly easier now to get new gear since the expansion has been released) , the ease of addiction (it can get incredibly addictive), it's time consuming and probably the maturity level of some of the players (but that's a problem in most online games, from xbox live games to MMOs)

Do you play other MMORPGs? Do you like them? If so, you might like WoW.
I would deffiently get the free ten day trial and try it before buying though. Ten days may not seem like much, but you can get to level 20 or greater with 10 days of play. You can get this demo either from someone who already has a copy of the game (all WoW and BC CDs come with two or more 10 day access passes) or you can buy a very cheap copy at a gameing store.
Please note the "demo" is restricted, you can't trade with other players, and at the end if the trial, if you want to continue you will need to purchase the software, either online directly through WorldofWarcraft.com or from a legitamate retailer in the real wolrd.

I disagree. If you set you goal to be top dog, or if you let people that you associate with pressure you to be, then that's what it is.
But you can do as you like. I've got a lvl 70 human mage that my goal right now is to be a 375 skill taylor. But I do an instance here an there. I help others that have goals of their own. The only pressure I feel is the PVP comp in areas I frequent.
