As a writer, I find that I sometimes get "creative bursts," where too many ideas for stories and novels pop into my head for me to concentrate on just one. Currently, I'm working on four novels, two short stories, a second draft of a movie script and a comic book script! It's hard for me to decide where to focus my creative energies. I often find that I work best when I do all six or seven projects at once, then look back at them when they're finished and start editing. Does anyone else have these "writing bursts?"

Yes, absolutely. For me it seems to occur when I come out of a block. Nothing, nothing, nothing then BAM!, six ideas at once. It drove me absolutely bonkers for a while. Like you, I would work on several ideas at once, then I would edit the project at completion. I too seem to work best, not limiting my energies to one project. However, I began to notice that I was doing a great deal of editing. After several projects, I began using a digital recorder. I would limit myself to two or three works at a time, recording notes on others as they came to me. Once one project was completed or if I ran into a block I would begin one of the others. The reduction of scattered ideas lead to less editing and better quality of works. Currently, I am working on a story line for a video game, a sci-fi fantasy novel and lyrics for our "debut" (keep your fingers crossed) album. I play guitar as well. Wished I could sing. Good luck with your projects.

Sure. I keep an idea notebook, a rough draft/expanded idea notebook, and several first draft notebooks. Sometimes one will inspire another or can be merged with another with a few changes. But try to focus on one or two projects at a time; they'll go faster, finish sooner, and probably be more time relevant.

Personally, I don't, but all writers are different. I think it's always a good idea to be working on many projects at once. That way if you get stuck on one piece, you can focus your energies on another.
