If I had to choose one it would be Spielberg because his mastery of bringing a story to life is unmatched, even for his problem with ending films.

Unfortunately, as good as he is at telling a story, Stephen Spielberg can't direct a good ending worth his salt. Martin Scorsese sufferes from a similar directing flaw among other problems. I would say Michael Mann but he suffers from the opening credit flaw. Antoine Fuqua has a problem keeping his films on layman levels. George Lucas has a relating problem. Tarantino has a me-likey problem (meaning even if you don't like it he does, therefore you should). Ang Lee has a bigger-is-better mentality. John Woo has those friggin' doves. Sydney Pollack is a better actor and editor than he is a director.

I could go on all day about all kinds of directors but they all have at least one flaw that is really noticeable.
