We are building a block foundation, and have found some of the blocks pushing in a bit. The structure doesnot seem to be in danger, ie there are no cracks. Wondering if we can just go ahead and connect the new block to the existing or if we should repair first. Also would need to know how to repair without taking the whole house down!! Thanks in advance for any help

It's hard to say without seeing it. Some older home foundations were crudely built and not constructed exactly plumb. I would look at it and try to consider if it has moved much recently or if it is still moving out of plumb. Also consider how far off it is. A couple inches over the full height of the wall is not bad if it seems stable and not changing. To rebuild it you would have to jack up the home slightly and build a new wall. That is a big job and saftey should be considered.

If there is nothing structural going on just take a ball of string and set a line going from the beginning of the existing to the end of the proposed edition and keep it all straight to the existing.

You may have a lot of "fudging" to do as you go up with your addition, if the problem is really bad. there is no cheap or easy way to fix it right. Your best bet is to leave it be as long as ther is nothing major going on with it.Just make sure you do the new one right.
