A lot of people will say Larry Bird. He was an excellent all around shooter, but not three point shooter. The most threes he ever took was 80 in one season.

Reggie Miller is the best. He is my favorate player, so I do have a bias, but let me give you several reasons.

1)Volume. He hit over 3,000 3s throughout his career. No other player has come close to that. Its easy to shoot a high percentage when you barely attempt 3s. But Reggie attempted a lot of them, and made a lot of them, which brings us to #2

2)High Percentage. He shot 39% for his career, and most seasons he shoot over 40%(magic number) from downtown. Many players three point percentage goes up and down with every season, but his was always very high and very dependable.

3)Shoot Selection. While Reggie Miller did shoot many, many threes, he did not abuse the 3 like most people think. The 3 pt shoot is a weapon, and when used correctly can be deadly. When overused, it can be disasterous. Reggie Miller was a great mid range shooter, good passer, and drove to the basket at a decent rate. The 3 pt shoot was his primary weapon but thats not all he did. Unlike Steve Kerr, Brent Bary, Jason Kapono, Reggie was not a "three point specialist."

4)Clutch(Biggest Argument!!) Reggie made them when it counted. Not just the playoffs either. In any game, playoffs or regular season, you could count on him in the 4th quarter if you needed a three. He almost ALWAYS produced. There are countless good three pointers who can't make a three when it counts. Peja Stojakovich, Dirk, Michael Redd, Mike Miller, Jason Richardon, ect...all are great 3 point shooters, but can't make the three when you need it to win a game. There are about 20 other great shooters who I put in the same catagory. Great three point shooters, but not in the clutch. Reggie Miller came through even the day he retired. He was knocking threes down everywhere, his team just got overpowered by the Pistons. If I named all the clutch shoots he hit, it would take up a whole page, and I would still need room.

So there you have it. Reggie Miller is #1. Steve Nash is coming very close those. I've never seen someone so dangerous from downtown. When he was in Dallas, he wasn't clutch though. Couldn't hit a three in the 4th quarter to save his life. In Pheonix though, he has come through numerous times. And he shoots almost 50% from long distance. Thats amazing! But right now, Reggie still holds the #1 spot, but Nash is fastly approaching.

No doubt Reggie Miller. He was accurate, exciting, and clutch. Greg Anthony is still smoldering from the frequency of Reggie burning him for 3's.
