I see all these plugs and ports in the back and I wanted to know -just whwat can I do with this thing? What would I need?

Common sense would dictate if I had an instruction booklet I'd read it instead of getting sarcastic answers on yahoo.

When I switched boxes, they only gave me a little booklet on how the DVR works. That's all.

I suppose reading the manual is not part of "getting your money's worth"?
In any case, check this nice interactive guide

which will guide you through the various connection options.

what do you mean, i just got one too and i love it because of my busy schedule i dont have time to sit and watch tv so i selected all of the shows that i do like and it records them on any channel that they ever come on, and when i have time i watch those shows, plus you get to fast foward through the commercials, so i never watch live tv any more, its GREAT!
